Generally, child support is money that the court orders parents to pay for the support of their child(ren). The court may order either parent or both of them to pay an amount that is reasonable and necessary for the support of the children generally based on the guidelines that the State of California has adopted to determine the amount of child support. The guidelines calculation is based on factors such as: income of each parent, the number of children, the amount of time each parent spends with their child(ren), support of children from other relationships, tax filing status of each parent and etc. However, under special circumstance the court may deviate from the guidelines calculation where fairness so requires.
